Story: Praktan (Bengali: প্রাক্তন; meaning Former) is a 2016 Indian Bengali film directed by Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy. The film starred award winning actor Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta. The film released to a huge reception on 27 May 2016 worldwide. It also received the International Film Business Award 2016 for becoming the Highest Grossing Movie of the Year - Bengal alongside films liks Kabaali, Sultan, Sairat and Action Hero Biju, at Indywood Film Carnival at Ramoji Film City.
Sudipa(Rituparna) meets Malini (Aparajita Addya) in a train journey from Mumbai to Kolkata. They share the coach. Malini is the second wife of Sudipa's ex-husband Ujaan(Prosenjit). Through flashbacks, we see that Sudipa's and Ujaan's love developed when she came for a tour to Kolkata and Ujaan was the tour guide. They got married. But theirs' was not a happy marriage. Sudipa loses her child. But she misses the proper support system that she was expecting from Ujaan's family. Also, Sudipa's career take fast strides and soon she climbs to the upper echelons of the corporate world. Ujaan gets angry when she comes back late. Sudipa is engrossed in her work and Ujaan wants her to have a balance. Sudipa tries to give their relationship a last chance by planning a trip to Mandarmani and Ujaan does not appear due to unavoidable circumstances. They finally get divorced.
Ujaan comes to the train to surprise Malini as it's her birthday. Ujaan and Sudipa interact, memories come back. Ujaan is very happy with Malini and their daughter Putul. Sudipa realises that Ujaan has changed all for the better. He has become more responsible, more accountable towards his family.He does all the duties of a husband. Sudipa learns from Malini that one has to love the other human as a complete person. Loving the better aspects of character, and shunning the negative traits will lead to unhapiness. Sacrifice or compromise is a victory, after all. Sudipa realizes finally that divorcing Ujaan was her an abrupt decision that was driven by immaturity and stubbornness.
