Story: Trivisa is an upcoming Hong Kong action crime thriller film produced by Johnnie To and Yau Nai-hoi, featuring the directorial debuts of newcomers Frank Hui, Thomas Ng and Mak Tin-shu. The film is a fictionalized story about three real-life notorious Hong Kong mobsters, Kwai Ping-hung, Yip Kai Foon and Cheung Tze-keung, whom are portrayed in the film by Gordon Lam, Richie Jen and Jordan Chan respectively, joining forces for a major heist. The film had its world premiere at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival's Forum section. Trivisa is also set to open the 40th Hong Kong International Film Festival on 21 March 2016 and will be theatrically released in Hong Kong on 7 April.
In early 1997, mobsters Kwai Ching-hung, Yip Kwok-foon and Cheuk Chi-keung, whom have never met one another, happen in appear in the same restaurant. Thereafter, rumor has it that Hong Kong's three most notorious mobsters is plotting together for a big heist. Everyone believes that the trio wants to score a final hit before the Transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong. However, the trio is unaware of the rumor. Cheuk recently abducted the son of a rich tycoon and successfully extorted a ransom of HK$2 billion, putting him at the peak of his criminal career. Unable to seek a new breakthrough, he hears about the rumor and becomes interested in the idea. As he becomes obsessed with the idea, he even goes to extreme lengths by inviting Yip and Kwai, both of whom are living in seclusion.
During a police and robber shootout, Yip was able to suppress the police with his powerful firearms, which shook the whole city. Living as a fugitive, Yip makes his fortunes in another way by smuggling counterfeit electronics. Powerful and prestigious in the past, Yip must now grovel to high officials. Although successful in his business, he continues to depress himself. When the rumor came to him, his inner anger explodes and is determined to give up everything and and pick up his gun once again join forces with Cheuk.
Kwai Ching-hung is very cautious and low key. Although the scale of his crimes are nowhere as large as Yip and Cheuk, but have managed to commit repeated robberies that are totally unknown to the police. Small-scale robberies have become his talent, which have minimal risk, but also little profit. As he hears of the rumor, although he realizes that he will make a large fortune by collaborating with Yip and Cheuk, he initially restrains himself and chooses to ignore it. However, as his heart of greed shows up, Cheuk begins to have second thoughts. Rumors that have been spreading around are gradually coming true.
