Story: Chongqing Hot Pot (Chinese: 火锅英雄) is a 2016 Chinese caper screwball comedy film written and directed by Yang Qing and starring Chen Kun, Bai Baihe, Qin Hao and Yu Entai. The film had its world premiere in March 2016 at the 2016 Hong Kong International Film Festival and is scheduled for release in China by Wuzhou Film Distribution on April 1, 2016.
James Marsh of Screen Daily said that "while scant characterization and flailing tonal shifts may prevent the film from standing up to serious scrutiny, Yang is clearly out to have fun, and on that front his belated second feature certainly delivers."
“I was not happy working at the bank. Those people didn’t really like me. Then three of my old male classmates appeared before me, and I felt like my life was finally going to change. So I thought of a plan. ‘Take me with you, and I want half of the money’.” Chongqing Hot Pot will be released on April 1st 2016. The movie promises to bring audiences a hint of romance, humor and action. The story revolves around three men, friends since junior high school, who open up a hotpot restaurant in an old air-raid shelter in Chongqing together. They call it the “Old School Friends’ Hotpot Pit”. Although their aspirations are high, their revenues are not – the restaurant hardly has any customers. Determined to make money, the friends try to expand their place for more business by tearing down walls. They then discover that the money storage of a nearby bank is right next to their underground hotpot pit, and that they have access to it. Right when they think about reporting it to the police, they meet their old high school friend Xiao Hui, who is now employed at the bank. The four old friends then decide to take a different path together, and their adventure begins (Weibo synopsis). The movie was directed by the Chongqing-born Yang Qing (杨庆, 1980), who studied at the Central Academy for Drama in Beijing. This is his second movie after ‘Nighclub’ (夜店) in 2009. The main roles are played by Chen Kun (陈坤), Bai Baihe (白百何), Qin Hao (秦昊), Yu Entai (喻恩泰) – all famous and renowned actors.
