Story: Pugazh is a Tamil action thriller movie directed by Udhyam NH4 fame Mani Maran. The movie has Jai in lead role. Pugazh is jai's character name in the film. Producer Sushant says "All our lives knowingly or unknowingly we have always rooted for the underdog, maybe because we see ourselves in them.
Everybody loves an underdog. Pugazh is one such underdog trying to overcome several hurdles. Jai and Mani Maran has superbly executed the emotions in the script" We were discussing many possible names for the heroine's role, but after all the discussions we had zeroed on Surabi of 'Ivan Vera Mathiri'. "She was the perfect choice to play Jai's pair in this film.
The first schedule is over and the second schedule has started today on full throttle and the entire crew is upbeat about the project" says Director Manimaran. This film is produced by Sushant Prasad and Govindaraj for Film Department and presented by Varun Manian of Radiance Media.
The film was first speculated in November 2013, when it was revealed that Manimaran had cast Jai and Priya Anand to star in his second directorial venture. Anirudh Ravichander was suggested as the film's music composer, while a simultaneously shot Telugu version with Siddharth and Hansika Motwani was also considered. Manimaran added that the film would be titled Podiyan, and that filming would begin in 2014. Varun Manian announced in July 2014, that he would produce the Tamil film alongside Sushant Prasad and Govindaraj of Film Department Studios, while Velraj was revealed as the cinematographer. Reports suggested that the film may be re-titled as Pugazh, after the title became re-available following a shelved venture by Aascar Films and actor Vijay. In August 2014, reports emerged that Trisha had agreed to do the film and was re-allocating her dates to try and fit the film into her schedule. However by November 2014, the film was launched as Pugazh with Surabhi revealed to be the film's lead heroine.
